Review: Elmo’s Guessing Game About Colors

Elmo's Guessing Game About Colors
Elmo’s Guessing Game About Colors by Sesame Street
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Elmo’s Guessing Game About Colors” by Sesame Street was very fun and colorful. Elmo went over the basic colors such as red, yellow, blue, etc…, and name items representing each one. My daughter really enjoyed the different colors, and she knew almost all the items by sight. It was a really great resource for learning colors.
As a parent, I really liked this book, and I will request the other titles in this series to go over with my daughter. I think she would be able to learn a lot from them.

I give it 5 stars.

P.S.  “Elmo’s Guessing Game About Colors” was provided on-loan from my local library.

Review: Thank You

Thank You
Thank You by Kelly Doudna
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Thank you” by Kelly Doudna is part of the SandCastle 3 – Good Manners series. It contains a series of sentences combined with illustrations that introduce your reader to situations in which their response would be “thank you.” My daughter really loved it…she kept flipping each page saying “thank you, thank you.”. She already knew to say this to be polite when someone does something for you, gives you something, etc…, but it was just really niced to have it enforced.
As a parent, of course I love this book because it teaches my child to have good manners, and I’ll put another book from this series on hold at the library.

I give it 5 stars.

P.S.  “Thank You” was provided on-loan from my local library.

Review: Max Goes to the Playground

Max Goes to the Playground
Max Goes to the Playground by Adria F. Klein
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Max Goes to the Playground” by Adria F. Klein was really cute. It’s about Max and his friend Jose spending the day at the playground. My daughter liked this book because it showed a playground, and she loves going to the park. And, the book had a lot of colors which she could easily identify with.
As a parent, I really liked this book because, not only did it help my child be more interative in reading, but the author also showed Max sharing his playground time with a friend, and I think sharing is real important.
I give it 5 stars.

Review: Pony Brushes His Teeth

Pony Brushes His Teeth
Pony Brushes His Teeth by Michael Dahl
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Pony Brushes His Teeth” was funny…during the story, Pony imitates his dad by brushing his teeth just like he does. I really liked this book because I’ve been working with my daughter more on the right technique on brushing her teeth so it was great for her to see Pony brushing his teeth and also to see the end result…that his teeth were so white at the end.
My daughter chuckled and point out how big Pony’s teeth were, but I thought this was a good illustration by the illstrator, Oriol Vidal, because, after all, the book is about Pony brushing his teeth.

I give it 4 stars.

Review: Story Time for Lamb

Story Time for Lamb
Story Time for Lamb by Michael Dahl
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Story Time for Lamb” by Michael Dahl was really cute! It was about a Mama Lamb trying to get her baby lamb settled down so she can read to him a bedtime story so he can go to bed. She has him pick out his favorite book and begins to go through the story. And, as she does, he is slowly lulled to sleep by the story.
As a parent of a child that never wants to go to sleep, I really appreciated this book. I thought it was a great way to end the night. Unfortunately, a bedtime story doesn’t always work.

I give it 4 stars.

Review: Max Goes To The Library

Max Goes To The Library
Max Goes To The Library by Adria F. Klein
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Max Goes To The Library” was adorable with very simple sentences for your beginning reader. It’s also great for the child who’s just about to get his/her library card. Ms. Klein has Max go through every step perfectly. He goes to the library, meets the librarian, gets his own library card and even gets on the computer as he’s looking for books.
Of course, as a parent and a lover of the library, this book was a favorite of mine, and I couldn’t wait to read it with my daughter. She really liked it too…she loves the library and recognized what this book was about right away.

I give it 5 stars.

Review: Nap Time for Kitty

Nap Time for Kitty
Nap Time for Kitty by Michael Dahl
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Nap Time for Kitty” was really cute. It’s about a kitty who simply refuses to take a nap (sounds a lot like my daughter when it’s time for her to take a nap.) It doesn’t matter how many times Mama Cat calls, Kitty is just not going for it. Kitty always explains that she’s just not sleepy right now, and finds tons of things to do – playing in water, getting wrapped up in yarn, hanging off the arm of the sofa – Kitty will do anything to avoid taking a nap. However, Mama Cat’s insistent, and finally Kitty settles down. And, when she does, she goes right to sleep because, like most children, Kitty was trying to do anything to prevent laying down and getting some rest. But, Mama Cat knew what she needed…we mothers always know what our children need.
I really liked this book…I thought it was cute and funny. However, my daughter didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to it except when she saw a picture she liked.

I give it 4 stars.
