“A Chair for My Mother” by Vera B. Williams is a lovely story…very touching. It’s about a young girl and her mother who are saving money to buy a comfortable chair because all of their furniture was burned in a fire they had in their home. The mother works as a waitress, and each night she comes home to put her tips in the jar until the jar is full and running over.
At last, the big day comes and mother and daughter go searching for a chair. They find one that they both love and enjoy sitting in it. I really liked this story, especially as a parent, because it shows how family members can pull together, even when the situation feels hopeless, and pull out a very good ending.
I give it 4 stars.
P.S. “A Chair for My Mother” was provided on-loan from my local library.
