I’ve joined the weekly Friday Book Blogger Hop hosted by Jennifer over at Crazy-for-Books. I believe it will be a great way to socialize with other blog sites that are similar to mine, and make some great friends too.
If you have a blog with similar interests, please come and join the fun.
This week’s question comes from Ivan at Ivan Bookworm: “What book influenced or changed your life? How did it influence/change you?
I’ve read many books, and, fortunately, several of them have made an impact on my life. However, I would like to choose for this question the book I’m currently reading, “Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill, for influencing and changing my life.
I am reading this book as part of a Canadian Reading Challenge hosted by John Mutford over at The Book Mine Set.
It’s about a woman, who at a young age, was stolen from her African Homeland, and, after a long and brutal trip overseas, is sold into slavery in the States. She eventually finds a way to escape, but, along the way, she has lost the two children she has borne. She has endured famine and humuliation and beatings, and she has been seperated from her husband.
Despite her setbacks, she has this delicious hunger for life that’s so beautiful and breathtaking…it makes you want to cry a thousand times over. She learns to read and write, how to take accounting and ledgers, set print at a newspaper, and even begins to teach others to read and write, thus helping them believe that there is hope.
I have learned to never take life for granted…ever, and to cherish the people you have in your life. I have learned that it’s never too late to do what you believe will make your life better…you simply have to make strides towards it, and you can achieve anything you set your mine to.
I can go on and on about this book, but I’ll save it for my review. Please look for it coming soon…
Happy “Book Blogger Hopping!”
